Sunday Post #14: The Quarantined Life

Just last week there was a confirmed case here in our city. Although this isn't the first for my country, it's the first for us here. I live in one gigantic archipelago of a country but somehow, it managed to spread here because this patient came home from the capital and that's where the virus is circulating. Last I heard though the patient's recovering well so that's a good sign and I hope they'll recover fully.

There's no lock down in our city because our local government weighed the pros and cons of the lock down. However, social distancing is still heavily implemented and a lot of the authorities check up areas and establishments to ensure if people are following the rules. Checkpoints for every boundary. Staying at home also only applies to those who can bring their work at home, part of the reason why the lock down isn't a thing. There are workers who need to go to their designated workplaces. I just feel so bad especially for those who need to work paycheck to paycheck.

The streets are quiet here after 9PM because we got a curfew now. Unless you're commuting from work, you can show your ID. Or if you went for late-night groceries/necessities, you're allowed to ask and then you can show your receipt if you're asked while you're on the way home.

( what i've been up to )

  • Classes are suspended for me because of the pandemic crisis and will "likely" resume on April 14. That's a tentative date because who knows what will happen then. But I got online classes so... I'm still not totally not busy. And I'm also working from home so there's that.
  • My sleep schedule's also a mess. Lately, internet connection's pretty good around the evening to the earliest hours in the morning. My online classes don't need lectures (we all have a mutual agreement not to do it) but we are required to submit plates and papers on a specific deadline. So I sleep around 9PM and I wake up around 1-2 AM. Sometimes I don't sleep until 4AM and then wake up around 6-8AM to do some work stuff. I sleep A LOT around 1-4PM though. A roller-coaster. (I live in a GMT+8 timezone)
  • We celebrated my mom's and cousin's birthday yesterday and the plan was to have dinner outside with mom's side of the family (my cousin's from that side too) but due to this pandemic, we all stayed home and just ordered food instead. There are so many rules being implemented and a lot of our favorite restaurants are closed anyway. Still good, it was still fun. Reconnected with many of my relatives (we're a very tight-knit clan) because most of us are staying home at the moment.
  • My family isn't part of the panic-buying squad because there's no lock down in our city. But everyone's advised to have only one member of the family to go out if they're going to buy groceries/necessities to avoid crowding.

( what i just read )

I finished this before I wrote this post and I loved it! I badly want the next book already. I miss YA fantasy books...

( what i'm currently reading / about to read )

I'm in the mood to read more fantasy so I'm reading this one next.

How are you today? I hope you're staying safe. Wash your hands, wear a mask (and gloves if you can) when out in public, stay home if you have nothing important to do or go to. I know these aren't much at all because it could still strike even the cautious/healthy ones but please take every preventive measure that you could possibly do for the sake of yourself and the people around you.

  1. You described my city as well. And majority is workign from home and it is more or less contained for now. Fingers crossed.

    1. I really hope this will be contained soon. So many lives are lost and affected. I hope you're doing well and stay safe!

  2. My state is in lockdown. Last week, I felt like I was getting private train rides, as there were so few people commuting to work. I know someone who's grandson is infected, and someone on my work campus tested positive as well. It's kind of scary. I am glad they are working things out to let you continue working on your degree. It would have been terrible to lose the whole semester.

    1. Commuting was like that for me last week too. One of the passengers even said that it's like we're going on a road trip, and true because only half of the usual number of passengers are allowed due to social distancing.

  3. Such strange and scary times. I hope your online classes are going well and that you can return to normal classes sooner rather than later. Glad you were able to have a good family birthday celebration despite all the restrictions in place. I'm looking forward to reading that new one from Kandi Steiner.

    1. So far it's alright. My professors are also understanding to the situation and they're alright if we couldn't submit on time or can meet the requirement because they're considering that not everyone of us has good internet reception and some live in places where there's a lockdown so they can't go out to buy supplies. And same! I want to start the Becker Brothers series though. I've read the 3rd book first, my mistake.

  4. We have only had one confirmed case in our town, but our state has the highest infection numbers so I don’t think it’s going to last. It sounds like your country is taking sensible precautions.
Your schedule seems awkward, I hope you can figure out something more normal.

Wishing you a great reading week, be well.

    1. That's scary.. I hope you're taking preventive measures and staying safe and all. Let's hope that the confirmed case won't rise to an overwhelming number and hopefully the patient right now will be able to recover.

  5. There's not technically a lockdown where I live, but like you said, a lot of places are closed and we're advised to avoid crowding so there's no point going out unless it's for supplies. Lovely post!

    1. It makes me so angry when I still see people going out and having a fun time. You're literally in danger in catching the virus and you're a potential carrier?? Why can't just people make some sacrifices for a bit by staying home.. is it that hard..

  6. Happy birthday to your mom and cousin! It was my birthday last week, and it was pretty boring because everything was closed. I hope you have a good week!

  7. It is tough for those who have to go out. The uncertainty is terrible because who knows if you'll come into contact with it if you are out? Glad you are able to work and study from home though. Be safe this week!

    1. Exactly. It's always so scary for the ones who need to go out to make a living. The Vanishing Deep does look awesome! I hope it's worth the read too. You stay safe too!

  8. There should be a lockdown where I live. People are still getting carryout and shopping every day, and unfortunately some of the people still working may be asymptomatic and still spreading the virus. Or the person in the car in front of you may have touched the counter since they're 'not that sick.' I hope we stop the spread soon enough! Take care of you and yours :)

    1. If they won't put your place in a lockdown, I hope authorities there start getting strict of implementing the stay-at-home rule. Because like the things you listed, it's really dangerous because some people treat this like a vacation and can't get in their head how serious this is. You take care too! Be safe!!

  9. We'll have a curfew tomorrow in Minnesota...I'm all about being social. But I've found some theater events in my community that are live streaming so I'm happy..I feel connected to people at a different level now. Here's a new connection. This is my first visit to your blog @theglobaldig.blogspot.com
